A wonderful read in the classics of literature by James Allen. In this and the following posts, I’m going to pull out many quotes and passages, provide my commentary on them, and provide to you, my dear reader, my personal insight into this book. I hope that you enjoy these posts and choose to read the book for yourself.

“For as he thinketh in his heart so is he”

Proverbs 23:7 KJV

He opens the book with this quote, showing his connection to Christianity and alignment with God.

He then continues to the forward:

This little volume (the result of meditation and experience) is not intended as an exhaustive treatise on the much-written-upon subject of the power of thought. It is suggestive rather than explanatory, its object being to stimulate men and women to the discovery and perception of the truth that—

“They themselves are makers of themselves.”

by virtue of the thoughts, which they choose and encourage; that mind is the master-weaver, both of the inner garment of character and the outer garment of circumstance, and that, as they may have hitherto woven in ignorance and pain they may now weave in enlightenment and happiness.

Now we can hold the primary idea, that the world of man is Mental. That we are a cloth made from the weaving of our thoughts. We color ourselves and our character by what thoughts we allow and cultivate.
